Sandra J. Lebrón joined San Diego Coastkeeper to oversee the implementation of Coastkeeper Education Program and Project SWELL (Stewardship: Water Education for Lifelong Leadership). SWELL is a partnership with the City of San Diego and San Diego Unified School District, Project SWELL provides a comprehensive and hands-on water quality and pollution prevention curricula to students in the district.

She has a bachelors in science in biology, with a major in coastal marine biology, from the University of Puerto Rico Humacao Campus, and a master’s degree in marine science from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus.

She worked at Birch Aquarium at Scripps where she taught classes about several ocean science topics. In addition to working in school and public programs, she was selected as lead educator for the Tidepooling Public Program and the Bay and You Summer Program.

She was also an education instructor for the Living Coast Discovery Center, formerly known as Chula Vista Nature Center. There she worked in camps and special events as lead instructor, coordination and writing curricula (English & Spanish).

Previous to her roles in San Diego, she was as a marine education specialist for the Sea Grant College Program at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. She also worked as the education coordinator for the Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration & Department of Natural and Environmental Resources in Puerto Rico.
